The geopolitical situation that has unfolded in the last few months has a major effect on the Russian economy, and above all on one of its key sectors – oil and gas industry. Anti-Russian sanctions took a heavy toll on the production sector. Plans and priorities, which have been set earlier in this sector of economy, are being reconsidered. Intense expansion of offshore production that was supposed to become a key growth area for the production sector is suspended for a while. The reason is obvious: Russia has neither technologies nor equipment required for offshore production. So for the time being interest is revitalized in onshore projects and traditional production centres.
In view of reserve depletion at the existing fields, projects for development of new fields gain special relevance, since they are intended to make up for offshore production rates, which have not been achieved. Many new fields, including major ones, are located at considerable distances from the existing production centres. Development of such fields will require new infrastructure facilities. One of the primary tasks is to build oil and gas non-trunk supply pipelines. And while foreign equipment and service providers were more likely to dominate the pipeline construction and infrastructure development in the technologically challenging offshore projects, Russian companies would feel more comfortable with onshore projects and would be able to compete with foreign suppliers on equal terms.
This study is dedicated to analysis and description of the current state and key growth drivers of non-trunk pipelines market in Russia. The study determines key growth areas of this market and offers estimates of the year 2020 prospects based on corporate data, statistical material and expert assessments. Special attention is paid to analysis of the current and prospective market demand and supply.
The study describes the properties of most of the new major and medium size oil and gas fields in Russia and commissioning timelines. The timeframe and required extent of non-trunk supply pipelines are estimated based on those data. The study focuses on demand parameters for various types of equipment, such as capacity, range, pipe diameter; number of oil pumping stations and oil transfer pumps; types of oil processing units for each field, estimate of gas processing units and gas compressor units needed.
The study also provides a detailed account of the non-trunk pipelines market’s current supply. Special attention is paid to profiles of pipeline manufacturers and companies designing non-trunk pipelines.
